So it's sometime in the not-so-distant future that the dreaded FEMA trailer goes to Covington and I move back to the New Orleans area. The way things work lately, however, it would just be too damn predictable if everything fell into place too easily.
My vocational rehabilitation case from Louisiana was supposed to have been transferred here to Georgia, but since New Orleans is in such a mess, my case was never located to be able to get the information here. Worst case scenario is this: I'll have to, instead of re-opening my case in Louisiana, start another one. Well, if it ends up with having another college education at no cost to me, it's a small inconvenience.
Next little problem is this: my car is leaking oil into the exhaust system, which means that either a seal is blown or the valves or piston rings are bad. Long story short...it looks like I'll need a new engine for my car, because it has enough miles on it to not really justify an engine rebuild. But, there's good in all this. Right now, I still have access to a master mechanic who works extremely cheap, which is why I'm trying to get my car in ship shape before I vacate.
In addition to having my car made healthy, I'd like to ultimately save some money too. If I'm going to be in Covington, I'll be shooting on down to New Orleans pretty often. Naturally, I'm not going to want to waste gas money by trekking across the Causeway too often. So, my projected course of action is to find a used scooter, like a Honda or Vespa. Getting that added to my insurance will be super cheap, and the fuel economy on those little things is phenomenal. Now, I'll certainly have to learn some strategic routes, since there's no way I'm going to drive down I-10 on a motorcycle type vehicle. The last thing I need is another medical crisis.
So in the near future, I'll see if all my tentative plans are going to start working...that'll be a welcome change!
